March Update: Camp Move & Big Projects
It has been a long past month, but with patience and determination we were able to get further into our list of projects bringing us closer to completion.
We also have finally reached a solid status in our 501(c)(3) journey, as we are nearing our full submission of our bylaws and internal structure. We can officially accept donations and provide receipts while we are in this state, which is a huge step for us as an organization going forward. We have set up a donation portal on the site to support this exciting news!
With assistance from other individuals, organizations, and people around the country we have been able to utilize equipment from Sunbelt Rentals through a partnership made by an incredible leader and volunteer, Adam Zart. The larger machine provided made it possible to get each of these larger jobs started through the month of march in combination with our other equipment rentals.
With the two skidsteers and 2 excavators, we were able to get a few other projects taken care of that we have been eyeing for a while:
Cleanup of a property on Mountain Farm up Cattail Creek, where trees and debris still remained around a few of the homes there, including a number of trees up behind a cabin
Removal of a carport and cleanup of debris from a driveway and entrance blocking access to a home
Completed well work for a pair of homes who were having intermittent issues with their water supply
Dug and laid water lines for a home on 197 S to get their mother back in their home
Road repairs and gravel being laid on a number of properties from donated gravel
A number of other projects have been picked up and taken care of in between some of the larger jobs that we are tasked with - anything that we can do while we are in an area we try to take care of the same day.
In other news, due to some changes we are moving camp and officially closing down any volunteers staying on site in a camp location. We are nearing the end of our time in Pensacola, and are looking to wind down the overhead of meals and oversight on the day to day when running a full volunteer camp. With this change, a number of volunteers and individuals will be commuting daily and meeting with our leadership team to get projects completed during this change in the way we operate.
Thank you all for your continued support and work in Pensacola, and as the rest of this month continues we will do our best to support the community and be the hand and the feet of those who cannot serve. We are truly blessed to have a team that powers through the long days, combined with people around us to stand by us day in and day out.
