Texas Operations Update — Hunt & Kerrville

Our NAONE team has been hard at work in the Texas Hill Country, weaving together community connections, cleaning up storm damage, and laying the groundwork for long-term recovery. What started as a few local introductions has grown into a strong network of neighbors, nonprofits, and volunteers working side-by-side.

  • Heart of the Hills Campground — Hunt, TX
Just a quarter mile south of Camp Mystic, Heart of the Hills served as a key waypoint for our team. Dean, the owner, welcomed us with open arms, offering a place to regroup and connect with the community. In moments like these, generosity doesn’t just make a difference — it sets the tone for an entire operation.

  • Partnership with Intrepid Care
Led by Mike, Intrepid Care is a nonprofit whose mission isn’t typically disaster relief — but when they saw the need, they stepped forward without hesitation. Their camp became a welcoming gathering place for our crew and the community, a reminder that disaster response is as much about heart as it is about logistics based out of Camp Mimi.

  • Camp Mimi — Kerrville, TX (Run by Intrepid Care)
During our time in Texas, Camp Mimi — located on Mr. Melvin’s property and led by CJ — served and continues to serve as a central hub for local relief efforts. From here, they stage supplies, deploy teams, and host community check-ins. The camp is full of activity: trucks coming and going, equipment moving, and volunteers sharing meals after long days in the field.

  • Neighbor-to-Neighbor Recovery
One of the most meaningful moments of our trip was helping Gary, a neighbor to Mr. Melvin, restore part of his riverbank. Gary’s generosity in return was extraordinary — offering his two helicopters for supply drops and transport into hard-to-reach areas.

  • Looking Ahead: Camp Veng
Our upcoming return trip to Texas will focus on partnering with Josh of Lonestar Actual at a new relief site called Camp Veng. One of our team members first met Josh while doing relief work in North Carolina, and they stayed in touch. When we visited Texas on our recent recon trip, we reconnected and saw a clear opportunity to work together.

Camp Veng’s location carries a unique legacy — the site itself has history that we are wanting to discover more about dating back to the 1950s. It will now take on a new purpose as a strategic hub for ongoing disaster relief in Texas. NAONE will help Josh and his team set up the systems and infrastructure they need, and we’re committed to supporting them for the long haul. Whether that means providing volunteers, supplies, donations, or other resources, we’ll be working alongside Camp Veng to ensure they’re equipped to serve Texas communities effectively.
